Wee Roads & Mighty Mountains

This was a day road trip through winding roads and very impressive landscapes. Now that we decided to stop hiking, the sun appeared for the first time showing us Scotland at its best.

The starting point was Fort Williams, from where we left very early in the morning with Bloody Mary (our car) direction to the north. After some sunny pictures of Eilean Donan Castle, we took the A896 road, a very winding road which crosses the mountains and climbs up to Bealach na Ba at 626m, with fantastic views over the Isle of Skye.

Lunch stop was done down at Applecross, a little and isolated seaside village and a nice spot to take more pictures. We also stopped shortly at Torridon and Shieldaigh to admire the landscape and the afternoon snack was taken at Kinlochewe, with views over loch Maree.

At dusk we arrived at Gairlock, a group of villages around loch of Gairlock. It has a nice church, old cemetery and a (pink) sandy beach. When we found an accomodation that suited us, it was time already for dinner.

We took Bloody Mary again and headed south west to Badachro Inn, a typical highlands inn and pub. It was a little bit difficult to find but it is worth the ride because it has an enchanting location over a small fishing port. Nice owner and eternal clients, good ales and even better seafood, it was the perfect way to finish this road trip!!
